Beauty Myth of the Day

Scandle Candle's Beauty Myth Countdown.

Myth #22:

All alcohol in skin products is bad.

Truth:

Some compounds and variations of alcohol can act as emollients. Emollients are used to correct dryness and scaling of the skin by softening and smoothing your complexion. Beauty products containing the following types of alcohol are beneficial in cosmetics and beauty products:
  • Cetyl alcohol
  • Cetearyl alcohol
  • Cetostearyl alcohol
  • Cetyl alcohol 40
  • C12-15 alcohols
Other than the previous 5 variations, be careful when using alcohol-based skin care products, some forms of alcohol are not beneficial to the skin. Remember the 5 Cs when shopping for skin care products.
